Merlin Mann made a post to 43 Folders called I Want a Pony: Snapshots of a Dream Productivity App. It lays out some of the features he'd like to see emerge in productivity apps. This includes:

  • GUI piece written in Cocoa
  • Hooks (ways of importing, exporting and "reaching" data in a variety of ways)
  • Tagging
  • IMAP-like syncing
  • Syndicated everything via secure HTTP
  • Smart groups and ad hoc collections
  • Smart associations and intra-project linking

In comments the word "glue" (as in "functional glue") emerged.
