Finding Cross-Platform Software

Software written for the Java platform can be portable, and often is. However, check the description of the software and see.

Software may also not be cross-platform, but use technologies which are - permitting you to get at your data or perform your desired work no matter what the platform. The iCal calendar standard falls into this category; so does HTML and XML support. If you have a need fulfilled by one of these standards, make sure that your software all supports it. For example, iCal is supported by more and more software, including Evolution for Linux, Now Up-to-Date for Macintosh, and the original Apple iCal - and more.
