[edit] Quicksilver & Spotlight
Have there been any discussion about the these two programs working at cross-purposes to each, or duplicating jobs?
I will switching to OS 10.4 in about a week and would like to know what current users think.
- When I installed Tiger, I upgraded to the newest (Tiger-only) Quicksilver, B40. They've reached B41 now, and IMO, it's about 95% ready for action. Apparently the move to B40 involved a whole new framework for Quicksilver's inner workings; as a result, a lot of my most cherished plug-ins (such as the del.icio.us plug-in) took a week or two to become usable in Tiger. On the other hand, B40 eliminated an intermittent crash problem I had not been able to run down in the earlier builds. (If the move to B41 makes you nervous, I believe you can continue using pre-Tiger builds under Tiger if you want to). Anyway, I find that QS complements Spotlight rather well. I use QS to open frequently-used files, or files whose location is known, and use Spotlight as a content-oriented search tool. Spotlight coopted the Cmd-Space shortcut, so now I have QS mapped to Ctl-Space. Anyway I heartily recommend Tiger on numerous other grounds, and I think you'll find that both Spotlight and QS each have their own niche to fill. --Robcourtney 12:03, 10 May 2005 (EDT)
