Talk:Unsorted life hacks

Any interest in having a (smallish?) subdivision of life hacks dedicated to financial tips and tricks? I have a couple I could add already, such as my Online-Banking-to-RSS hack. I don't mean a section on stock tips or mortgages, but rather that collection of life hacks that relates specifically to keeping out of debt before the next paycheck and keeping track of your groats. Thoughts?

I recon the easiest way to do this is to make a series of articles with whatever topic, and put all the hacks under there. Your financial hacks could be under Financial Hacks, which would be Category:Lifehacks. That way we've still got all the lifehacks in one place (the category), but we're sorting them at the same time. If you get what I mean. --Akchizar 02:17, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)
I agree with Akchizar. Sad, I'm most excited by the sorting. --Librarygirl 04:30, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

OK, starting to sort this stuff. Categories I immediately see from the list:

  • Stuff to carry
  • Financial hacks
  • Decision-making

Anything I've sorted, I've marked witha fullstop next to the bullet point. Hopefully no conscientious dimwits will think they're typos and remove them :).--Akchizar 02:56, 23 Mar 2005 (EST)

I think a House and Home life hack category would be nice, with subcategories like "Kitchen and Food," "Cleaning," etc. Home Comforts stuff.
I nominate a Kitchen/Cooking Hacks category. There's enough unsorted to warrant their own section. But I'm biased since I'm a chef (no longer professionally, alas). What do you all think? --JW 23:40, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
Given the way the TV discussion on the unsorted life hacks page has gone, I suggest a "Making more time" page in the life hacks category, including the various tricks to reduce time spent TV watching. I undertake to set this up, but it's not going to happen until Wednesday PM Sydney time at the earliest. --Elisha-B 23:42, 18 Apr 2005 (EDT)

I think we're going to need a "shaving" category all to itself soon. ;) I should ask my wife if there are any leg-shaving hacks we should add. :) --RobertDaeley 11:56, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Totally! I had no idea there were so many things to know about shaving! --Merlin 13:54, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
May I throw the shaving techniques into a "shaving" page? --NickDouglas 13:56, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
Done. --JamesRifkin 16:55, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

In case anyone wonders, I've gone and put my sig on all the hacks I originally submitted. I am doing this to conform with the emerging standard, although I think it's odd that contributions to the wiki proper (as opposed to comments in talk pages) have any attribution at all. • ADHD - Not a specific hack but seeing as Merlin thinks he may have ADD/ADHD and from what I have been reading, GTD seems as if it would apply to people with the disorder. What about a section on the front page of this Wiki for the disorder and any hints/tips experiences with solutions both medical and otherwise and their relative success? --Mikeanegus 09:32, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)
    • I just added a section to the ADHD page that addresses this. Cover your concerns? Jeff Porten 01:16, 6 Apr 2005 (EDT)

'Document your haircut' is fantastic! I have a slightly different approach - "And how would you like it cut?" "No. 2, please." --RB 17:10, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Could we fill up a phone hacks section? Phones are one of the most pervasive interruptions in most peoples' day. I bet there are a ton of great tips for making them less of a nuisance and less of a productivity sink. Or at the very least, I bet there are a few good tips that nearly everyone here could use. (I attempted to add an example to the unsorted life hacks page a minute ago.) --ThePolack 13:36, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)

A variant of the "Forehead Ticket Trick" that I've seen is "Fingers on the Noses", in which all the toddlers getting into a car have to be touching their noses before the driver shuts the doors. -- GH 11 Apr 05

  • Suggestion: Refactor all the reader suggestions into their own pages Ross

  • Suggestion: Start a Hygene (sp?) Hacks and include the Shaving Hacks, some of these in there.
