This is a life hack or pattern useful in many different situations; from the literal key shelf to that sock you keep stuffed with money at the back of the drawer.
[edit] How it works
Anything you need to pick up and use occasionally needs to have its own place.
Examples:
- We might well keep our keys on the key shelf so we can grab them quickly before leaving.
- If we always know where the flashlight is, then we won't struggle to find it in an emergency.
