[edit] Description
FreeMind is a premier, free/open-source, cross-platform mind-mapping software package. Recent development has turned it into high quality productivity tool. Operation and navigation of FreeMind is fast, featuring of one-click "fold / unfold" and "follow link" operations.
FreeMind is written in Java and uses an XML file format you can transform into whatever you like. Besides working across several platforms (0.8rc2 works fine in Windows, even if the UI is still sub-par on the Macintosh), there is an associated applet (for embedding on web pages) and a new (contributed) Flash viewer.
[edit] Features
Version 0.8.0 exports to:
- XHTML (standard list, javascript list, and map/list combination)
- PNG
- JPG
- OpenOffice.org Writer
- XSLT (your own stylesheet)
[edit] Testimonials
A definite upside to this software is it's ability to dump the mindmap as an outline. Great way to capture brainstorming meetings or get project plans off the ground.--ACGelwicks 14:00, 13 Jul 2005 (EDT)
