ConTEXT is a popular freeware text editor for Windows. It's fast and works well as a replacement for notepad.

ConTEXT supports context sensitive highlighting for various languages and environments.

One nice feature: highlighting columns of text. Those that remember QEdit (aka TSE, The SemWare Editor) can rejoice.

A very neat feature is that you can associate four "execute keys" with each file type. You can for example set up the file you are editing to be uploaded, compiled, run, previewed or checked for errors using any external program. All at the click of a button.
